The following list of notable burials is an attempt to introduce readers to some of Lone Fir’s residents to spark curiosity for personal research or at least justify our referring to the cemetery as an outdoor history museum. Many of the cemetery’s 20,000+ burials have interesting stories of accomplishments great and small, famous and infamous, old, new, and from every stratum of society. Waves of immigrants from various locales have ebbed at Lone Fir from Portland’s earliest inception. Some very famous people you never heard of have found their way to the cemetery.
With this listing and the self-guided tours available for download elsewhere on this website, Friends of Lone Fir seeks to share with you the breadth of our discoveries at the cemetery. The listing will always be incomplete, as we seek to learn more about these many souls as time goes on. If you have stories to share, please let us know; they may appear on a tour one day!
